Sydney: cool town. One of the few places I've arrived in and thought: 'yup, I could live here' - After Sterling, obviously ;-)
So it was a wrench to cross over the Harbour bridge for the 'last' time on the way North. I'll be back...

(Oh yeah - I was unimpressed by Bondi - but maybe that's because it was the middle of the winter and the place was deserted...)

I think I managed all the touristy things there (though there was no way I was going to climb over the flipping bridge - the road level was high enough for me!). Strangely, though, I was fine looking out of the AMP tower with my nose against the glass - don't understand that!
Did the Opera House tour, which was very interesting. I finally understand the thing about how the sails are all supposed to be parts of a sphere.
Went out to Olympic Park. Only 2 years late, but the place is still pretty inspiring. (Depressing for a Brit, cos it just shows how far away we are from holding the Games ourselves. London 2012? - I think not...)

Sydney: So they've got a beautiful Harbour, and the Opera House (which kept drawing me back, just for the architecture - not the Opera), and the Bridge - and great weather (even though it was still winter then) - the sort of place you arrive in and never leave.
It was hard to leave to start the journey up the coast...

Have now been in Sydney for about a week - (Stayed in a hostel in King's Cross, not the Gazebo though - don't know where that is) - spent most of the time mooching around the city and wandering around the bay.
So I've seen all the sights (ie Opera House/Bridge/Tower) from the outside.
Do you really mean for me to climb the bridge? No thanks! I walked across it though - that was enough for me! Did you notice that the pylons don't actually hold the arch up? I read somewhere that the pylons were just to reassure the "wussy aussies" that it wasn't going to fall down. There must be a better reason than that though!
Spent most of the week avoiding spending money (hence the mooching!)
Since the last few days have been quite nice - t-shirt weather during the day - I thought I'd come out to the beach. So I moved to Bondi this morning.
So far this seems to have been a mistake, as it is freeeeeezing!
The wind is about ninety mph (slight exaggeration) from the east (the sea), so there are huge waves - great for the surfers, but no fun for the rest of us. So far then, Bondi is spookily similar to Woolacombe in November. Hopefully the sun will come out this avo.

Accommodation The Pink House

3/5
A bit grungey - a bit cliquey. Not the sort of place to stay on a first night in Australia.
